The website messaging and copywriting process: How we work together

There are four stages.

1. Where your website currently is

Once we’ve decided to work together, I spend time looking at your current website, if you have one, and reading your clients’ testimonials. I send you a questionnaire to complete which helps me focus on your main concerns, your hopes and your biggest challenges.

2. Discovery conversation

Next we have a conversation that lasts about an hour, where I find out more about you and your business.

I want to understand:

  • Your background and what drew you to the work you do

  • Your clients – the challenges they face and why they work with you

  • The outcomes your clients experience

  • The direction you want your business to move in

This helps me identify the themes, patterns and strengths in your work so I can create website copy that feels true to you and easy for potential clients to understand.

3. Writing

After steps one and two, I have the building blocks for your web pages. I take everything we’ve discussed, gather all my research and begin writing clear, structured copy for your site’s most important pages.

4. Review and refine

When the copy’s finished, I send it to you to look over. One round of copy tweaks are included to make sure tone and phrasing are right – let me know within a week if anything needs changing.

My background is in UX (user experience) and content design – I spent many years making websites simple to use and easy to understand and navigate.

This means I think a lot about the needs of your potential clients, coupled with the needs of your business – all before I’ve written a word.

What isn’t included

I don’t work with visual design elements like colour palettes or fonts, and I don’t make changes directly to your website.

If you need support with design or implementation, I’m happy to point you towards a trusted designer.

Common questions about Four Core Website Pages

Do I need to already have a website?

No. If you don’t already have a website we can work on the messaging and copy and then you’ll have your four core pages ready to upload to your site once you have everything in place.

I’m not 100% clear on my niche – who I help, how and the outcomes. Will the Four Core Website Pages help me get clear on this?

This isn’t the best service for you because the Four Core Website Pages is delivered in 2 weeks, so we move quite fast. Getting clear on your niche can take a little time so it’s best to do this first. In your situation, I recommend a Website Messaging & Clarity Session.

Can I make changes to the copy you send me?

Yes. One round of copy refinements is included, so if anything doesn’t feel quite right we can change it. I use language taken from your client feedback, testimonials and the information you share about your work, so the copy is designed to sound like you.

Do you update the website with the new copy?

No. But if you need help with this, I can point you in the direction of a website designer who can help.
