Thoughts on embodiment, alignment and how we create our reality.

From knowing we create our reality to fully living it

Exploring how we bridge the gap between understanding and embodiment

Occasionally I send out a newsletter I call Refocusing Reflections sharing insights into how we create our reality.

Knowing vs living the work

You’ve read the books, watched the videos and listened to the podcasts.

You know you create your reality, and this knowing feels exciting and empowering.

Yet in everyday life things don’t feel that different. You still react instead of respond to situations, and each day looks very similar to the last, even though you have dreams for something different.

Perhaps you apply what you know, but only when you reach a crisis point. And sometimes you feel frustrated or ashamed that understanding you create your reality intellectually hasn’t translated, yet, into lived experience.

Bridging the gap between knowing and doing

Many people understand that we create our reality through our thoughts, feelings and beliefs – through frequency and vibration.

But understanding something intellectually doesn’t automatically translate into how we live day-to-day. Old habits, fears and emotional patterns often pull us back into familiar ways of responding to life.

I’m interested in how we bridge the gap between knowing something cognitively and applying what we know in everyday life. Which regular practices and new ways of being help us move from who we are today toward who we want to become?

The Refocusing Method

A practice-based framework I use came out of my own experiences going through a miserable time at work. I paused, took stock, and applied everything I knew about creating my reality. When I looked back at what I’d done, a six-step process emerged that I call the Refocusing Method.

Here are the steps:

  1. Make peace with where you are. Don’t make where you are bad or wrong – right now it is what it is. Allow yourself to feel whatever you feel without analysing it.

  2. Decide what you’d prefer. When you know what you don’t want, you know what you do want – put your focus on what you do want.

  3. Align with what you want. Whether that’s a thing, a situation or a way of being – imagine already having or being it and let yourself feel that feeling within you.

  4. Deal with your doubts and fears. The ‘bigger’ the thing we want, the more doubt and fear can get triggered when we align with it. Build a practice to transform beliefs and calm your nervous system.

  5. Take action. Take physical action that feels good and is in alignment with what you want.

  6. Follow your joy. Trust that what you want is unfolding. In the meantime, do the things that feel good and be open to what the universe brings you.

Benefits of the Refocusing Method

When we follow the Refocusing Method, and believe we can have the life we want, we:

  • respond to situations instead of reacting in a knee-jerk way

  • don’t panic when we feel anxious because we have tools to ground and recenter

  • know what steps to take each day to get into alignment with what we want

  • feel empowered knowing we’re in the driving seat of our lives

  • feel comfortable entertaining dreams that once felt too big

  • don’t settle for less because we think we cannot create better

  • feel comfortable in the space between knowing what we want and having it

Where it all started

My interest in how we create our reality began with having many questions as a child. Then around 2007 I watched The Secret, followed by What the Bleep. Those documentaries confirmed a lot of what I’d felt intuitively. Since then I’ve spent many hours reading and researching the topic and fine-tuning my approach.

Something I noticed in both myself and my clients was that what we knew cognitively didn’t always translate into our lived experience. I found myself often falling into familiar habits of thought and belief that didn’t support my dreams.

Closing the gap between who we are, and who we want to become, is what I love to explore.
